Tank barge lost oil after grounding
While the "Stavo" remained berthed at the oil quay at the Donaulände in Vienna on Feb 8, the master and owner were facing salvage costs in an amount of some 100.000 Euro and other consequences. The Donau Service was investigating regarding environmental damages after it became known that a pipe on the barge had ruptured and an unknown amount of oil spilled into the Danube. The Hungarian master who was found to have been intoxicated will be prosecuted and his certificate as master withdrawn temporarily. 150 tons diesel lightered, tanker refloated, master alcoholized
On Feb 7 the tank barge "Rüti - ZH" (MMSI-No.: 211520520) went alongside the grounded "Stavo" in order to lighter part of the cargo. In the afternoon 150 tons had been taken off, and the tank barge started to move slightly, without, however, rerfloating again. 90 more meters oil booms were ordered by the fire rescue Vienna and Kleinschönbichl. At 4.40 p.m. the tank barge was refloated without hull damage according to initial investigations. The fire rescue started to remove the oil booms. The master of the "Stavo" was drug tested and was found to have been intoxicated with an alcohol level of 0,74 per thousand. Bunker tanker grounded on Danube
In the afternoon of Feb 5, 2017, the "Stavo", 500 ts (EU-No.: 08548018), ran onto a stone dam off the port of Vienna on the Danube at Langenzersdorf. The bunker ship was loaded with 289 tons fuel which threatened to leak into the river in case the mono-hull ship was breached. The pusher tug "Spis" (MMSI-No.: 267010025) on Feb 6 tried to pull the tanker off, followed by the "TR Turic" (MMSI-No.: 267168000) on Feb 7 which was called to stabilize the barge. The previous day the authorities jointly with the fire rescue Vienna and Lower Austria had decided to lighter the 289 tons fuel from the ship to refloat it. Before the transfer onto another barge could start, the fire rescue had to boom the ship and the surrounding areas off to prevent a pollution of the New Danube, the Danube island in Vienna and the Marchfeld Canal in case of a leakage of the diesel which was destined to a mineral oil tank store in Korneuburg.
