Woman clamped after wheelhouse hit bridge
The "Stark" on its way to Hamburg allided with a bridge spanning the Main-Donau-Canal at Nürnberg on May 29, 2012. The ship was running down the canal when its wheelhouse crashed against the railway bridge which was 700 metres off the lock the vessel had passed before. The ship slid underneath the bridge and drifted 100 metres further. One woman was clamped in the destroyed wheelhouse and had to be freed by the fire rescue which was on scene with 35 men. Obviously the wheelhouse had not been lowered enough. After the accident, the canal was closed for ship traffic. The "Stark" had to be pulled back underneath the bridge to moor it at a quay.
