Clipper vessel to undertake world tour promotion of UN Sustainable Development Goals
On 18th July, a press conference was held at the Willemsoord historic harbour in Den Helder. The subject of the meeting was the mid-life maintenance programme of the Clipper Stad Amsterdam, scheduled to take place in Den Helder in late 2019 and early 2020. During the maintenance programme, Damen Shipyards Den Helder will carry out a scope of work in the former naval dockyard Willemsoord that will increase the efficiency and sustainability of the Damen-built vessel, preparing her for a round the world voyage she will undertake in support of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The work that Damen will carry out on the Stad Amsterdam includes replacement of her main engines and diesel generators for equipment with improved levels of efficiency. They will also exchange her sewage installation for a new one that extracts sewage residue, purifying the water for clean, safe disposal.
Medevac during parade
On July 19, 2012, around 2 p.m. the MRCC Corsen was alerted after a passenger aboard the "Stad Amsterdam" had fallen ill. After a consultation with the medical service in Toulouse, the medevac of the woman was decided. lifeboat was launched at Loctudy and a Dolphin helicopter of the Civil Defence took off. The ship which attended the Brest-Douarnenez Parade had stopped off Pen-Hir. The patient was transferred to the SNSM-boat and taken to Morgat for treatment.
