Hanjin, UASC launch second relay loop from Algeciras to West Africa

Thu May 30 10:19:16 CEST 2013 arnekiel

THE United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) is to launch a second WAF relay loop with Hanjin Shipping to complement the existing relay service to and from West Africa since it launched regular connections more than three years ago. The service WAF2 will connect Algeciras to Lagos-Tincan, Cotonou and Lome with a four-week turnaround with the first relay service that connects Algeciras to Lagos-Apapa, Tema and Abidjan. Transshipment cargo on long-haul Hanjin and USAC services will be handled at Hanjin's Algeciras Total Terminal in order to support connections from West Africa to Asia and America. The service will deploy three vessels in the 2,600 TEU range with the first sailing from Algeciras by 2,553-TEU Hanjin Port Adelaide. It is unknown if Evergreen which co-loads on the existing relay service will join the WAF2 loop, noted Alphaliner.
