Passenger ship stuck for seven hours
In the morning of Jan 6, 2020, the 'Spiekeroog IV' with 140 passengers on board ran aground between Spiekeroog and Neuharlingersiel short time after leaving the island port. The lifeboat 'Neuharlingersiel' was called from the DGzRS station Neuharlingersiel but failed to refloat the ship. It remained stuck with all passengers on board for seven hours before it managed to back off the shallow which had built up in the fairway with the rising tide at 5.45 p.m. and berthed in Neuharlingersiel at 6.40 p.m. The passengers had been served with free meals in the meantime and got offered an open bridge.
