Grounding off Lapinsalmi
The "Egon W" ran aground on Sep 13, 2016, at 8 a.m. in Lapinsalmi, off the western coast of Harkinsalo. The ship with a crew of six and a pilot on board was en route from Joensuu to Glückstadt. It refloated about three hours later with own means, after divers had surveyed the bottom. The grounding was caused by an engine failure as this did not reverse when required. After refloating, the vessel turned back and returned to Savonlinna at 3.45 p.m. After cargo operations after the arrival in Glückstadt on Sep 18, she left the port on Sep 20 at 7 p.m. and headed to Delfzijl where she docked at the Niestem Sander Drydock for repairs on Sep 21. The ship left the yard on Oct 6, bound for Hamburg, and was transiting the Elbe river upstream on Oct 7.
