Grounding off Stralsund

On May 14, 2016, at 1.30 p.m. the "Lunamar", having just arrived from Wismar, ran aground in the northern approach of Stralsund in the area of the Vierendehl trench due to a navigational mistake. The German tug "Bock" (MMSI: 211497360), was called to assist and pulled the vessel off. It berthed in port at 5.45 p.m. where the water police detained the ship and launched investigations. Drunk captain had close call

Coming from Gdynia, the "Lunamar" was in danger of running aground between Vaasa and Umeå. after the captain of the vessel had fallen asleep at the helm just as the ship was heading toward Vaasa on Apr 24, 2014. The cause was found to be his intoxication. Helicopters were dispatched from both Sweden and Finland and the MRCC Turku alerted. The captain woke up approximately 15 minutes before running aground his ship off Valsörarna. The Polish captain was questioned by the Border Guard and then the police took a deportation order. Another crew member took over the helm. Meanwhile the ship is en route to Bermeo with an ETA of May 5.
