Back home after 5 weeks salvage operation
After having been involved in the salvage of the "MSC Flaminia", the "Fairmount Expedition" returned to Rotterdam on Sep 10 and moored in the Waalhaven at 8 p.m. The ship was coming from Wilhelmshaven after successfully having delivered the casualty in the JadeWeserPort. Anglian Sovereign to reach burning MSC Flaminia on Thursday or early Friday
The 16,500-hp ocean going tug Anglian Sovereign (built 2003)is currently being loaded with specialist firefighting gear at Inverness including a Cobra lance system that can pierce container walls and extinguish fires within boxes. But it will be Thursday or Friday before this tug reaches the last reported position of the MSC Flaminia.
Contract extended
The government is set to extend the contract for the "Anglian Sovereign" for a month while details of a deal with the oil industry for emergency tug cover around Shetland and Orkney are hammered out. Ministers had been expected to announce arrangements tomorrow for deployment of a standby vessel, most likely in the Schiehallion oil field 100 miles west of Shetland, as the Maritime and Coastguard Agency-funded arrangement raan out on Mar 31, 2012.
