Crew evacuated by helicopter
In the morning of Sep 25, 2011, the four members of the crew of the "Southern Cross" had to be rescued from their ship off the island of Mallorca by the lifeboat service. About 35 miles off the Cap de Formentor on the north coast of Majorca, the "Southern Cross" had suffered a leak and was in danger of sinking: the crew members climbed into a lifeboat. Previously they had issued an SOS, and therefore could be quickly located by the Coast Guard. The castaways were rescued by helicopter and flown to Palma unharmed. The "Southern Cross" was towed to the port of Alcudia. The ship was enroute to Barcelona, with intending to do join the Copa del Rey "Trofeu Comte de Barcelona" race.
