Crew member killed by hatch cover
A 59-year old Ukrainian man, one of the eight crew members of the 'Solymar', died after being hit by a falling 15-tons-hatch cover on March 16, 2021, at the South Quay in Vejle. A crane had lifted the hatch cover for maintenance, which then broke los and crashed onto the deck where two crew members were laying out supports for it. One sailor managed to escape, the second one was hit. After the alert at 8.54 a.m., rescue crews and a helicopter were sent to the scene, but it quickly became clear that the man had been killed on the spot. The police summoned both the Danish Working Environment Authority and the Danish Maritime Authority to the site. The Danish Maritime Authority has detained the ship, which is not allowed to leave the port and remained berthed at Vejle as of March 18. Engine failure left ship stranded
The "Solymar" on Oct 17, 2012, suffered engine failure in the entrance to Jakobstads port. The ship which came from Sunderland where it had sailed onOct 9 is stranded since two days now.
