Rescue operation off Cap Fagnet

Mon Jun 20 12:47:18 CEST 2022 Timsen

In the night of June 18, 2022, a pleasure boat reported an engine failure to the CROSS Gris-Nez which deployed the lifeboat from the SNSM station in Cap-Fagnet and the Dauphin helicopter from the French Navy base in Le Touquet-Paris-Plage, while the National Navy semaphore of Fécamp indicated to have a visual on the drifting ship. Taking the ship in tow or recoveriong the two yachtsmen proved impossible due to the degraded weather conditions, with waves of 3,50 meters height. After the boat from Cap-Fagnet got its propeller fouled during the rescue opeations, the 'Notre Dame de Bonsecours' of the SNSM station in Dieppe was then engaged by the CROSS to join the operation area in turn. A crew member from the boat of the station Cap-Fagnet managed to board the pleasure boat, but without the possibility of securing it. In view of the difficult weather conditions, it was decided to hoist the two people and the SNSM crew member on board the Dauphin helicopter. Following consultation with the SAMU of Le Havre , the two yachtsmen and the SNSM crew member, in a state of hypothermia, were dropped off at the Monod hospital in Le Havre. The lifeboats were able to reach their respective ports.
