Three year old girl saved after fall into Mersey
On Oct 14, 2013, a 3-year-old girl has been rescued from the River Mersey after she tumbled 16 feet into the water from the 2nd deck of the "Snowdrop". The "Snowdrop" was pulling into the landing stage at the Wirral Bank when the child fell. Eyewitnesses heard a woman screaming, before seeing the little girl struggling in the water below. Two members of the crew - one thought to be its 2nd mate - dived into the river and hauled the girl from below the landing stage at Seacombe and hauled her to a muddy bank. Their incredibly brave actions have been praised by councillor Liam Robinson, chairman of Merseytravel who were very proud of the crew members aboard the ferry who in going to the water themselves acted instinctively to avert what could have been a much more serious incident. The girl was rushed to Arrowe Park Hospital, Birkenhead, where she was said to be making a good recovery. North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust service reports said the young girl was fully alert and breathing normally. She has been taken to Arrowe Park Hospital for checks. Ferries were suspended for the rest of the day. The Marine Accident Branch has been informed.
