Tranfer of salvage equipment from Smit Borneo to Jascon 25 delayed
The "Smit Borneo" was to transfer salvage equipment onto the crane barge "Jascon-25" needed for the removal of the USS "Guardian" from Tubbataha Reef. Howver, both crane ships had to retreat to Puerto Princesa Bay due to inclement weather at Tubbataha Reef on Feb 17. The "Jascon 25" had arrived at Puerto Princes in the night and proceeded to Tubbataha after going through inspection and documentation at the Bureau of Customs. The "Jascon 25" arrived at the Tubbataha Reef on Feb 16, and operations to remove the USS "Guardian" stuck in the marine sanctuary were origninally planned to start on Feb 18.
Anchoring operation failied
Poor sea conditions forced the US Navy on Feb 10 to push back the operation to dismantle the USS "Guardian". The US Navy team would continue the salvage operation when the bigger crane ship "Jackson 25" arrives. The "Smit Borneo" encountered anchoring problems on Feb 9, causing a delay in the start of the salvage operation. The "Smit Borneo" was unable to anchor due to inlement weather. Its anchoring should be precise. It tried to anchor but so far, out of the four anchors, only one had a good bite at seabed. The "Jascon 25" departed from Singapore on Feb 9 around 4 p.m. and was due to sail directly to Tubbataha Reef where it was expected to arrive around on Jan 15 around 9 p.m. Meanwhile the US Navy planned continue with the removal of small items aboard the USS "Guardian".
