Collision on the Kiel Canal

On Apr 22, 2017, at 10:53 a.m. the "City of Amsterdam". coming from Gdansk, was in collision with the "Conmar Bay" in the Kiel Canal at km 48 near Breiholz during the westbound transit. Several containers at the port side of the "Conmar Bay", which was bound from Rotterdam to Helsinki, were damaged, the car carrier suffered a breach of 50 meters length about 15 meters above the water line. The "Conmar Bay" was allowed to proceed to Kiel for further investigations. She berthed at the Voith Quay at 2.30 p.m. and left the same evening bound to Helsinki, where she berthed at the Steveco Container Terminal on Apr 24 at 11.15 a.m. The "City of Amsterdam" was allowed to proceed to the communal port Rendsburg with tug escort. The car carrier had waited for the "Conmar Bay" to pass but was drifted into its course in winds of 8-9 Beaufort.
