Expedition cruise ship towed to Longyarbyen
On Sep 2, 2019, at 6 p.m. the "Sjøveien" with 12 passengers and a crew of 10 on board requested assistance after the ship had lost all engine power at the height of the Mohn Bay in the Storfjord. A rescue operation was initiated by by the HRS Northern Norway . The Governor's service vessel "Polarsyssel", which was about two sailing hours away, was directed to the casualty. After its arrival on scene, it took the "Sjøveien" under tow to Longyearbyen which was about 280 nautical miles and was expected to take over 30 hours.
