Damaged ferry waiting for new propeller
Repairs of the "Sjernarøy" have almost been finished, but Norled still has to wait for new parts for the propulsion system. It will take about four weeks before the ferry is back in operation. The "Sjernarøy" had run aground at North Hidle in Sjernarøy on Oct 12. None of the 43 passengers had been seriously injured, but the ferry took in water. The "Sjernarøy" docked at GMC Yard at Buøy in Stavanger. The damage to the hull was less than expected. The repairs will be completed early next week, but operators kept waiting for the delivery of new propellers and stock from Finland. There was no final delivery date yet, but the parts were expected during the second week in November at the earliest. They will then have to be mounted and adjusted. The chartered ferry "Rygerfjell» only takes about half as many cars as the "Sjernarøy". Norled had waited three days to insert the reserve ferry following its tender. Damaged ferry towed to Stavanger
There was only one ferry, the "Foldøy"", running between Fogn and Judaberg after the "Sjernarøy", which ran aground on Oct 12 at 8.15 p.m., was towed to Stavanger for repairs of the grounding damage suffered on the North side of North-Hilde. After having been refloated, the ship docked at Judaberg to unload the cars before being towed further by the tug "Mega Mammut" and escorted by the lifeboat "Peter Henry von Koss. The ferry reached Stavanger on Oct 13 at 9 a.m. The grounding was probably caused by a technical failure so that the ship did not slow down and ran hard aground.
