Niva grounded at Langøya
On Nov 22, 2016, the "Siva" suffered engine failure just below the steep cliffs by the lighthouse at Langøya. Probably the propeller had got fouled by a rope. The fishing boat of crayfish fisherman Trond Jensen (59) from Langesund drifted ashore in rough seas in the Langesund Fjord within short time. It came home from fishing with crayfish pots and crayfish onboard. Jensen alerted Tjøme radio. First he still tried to salvage the catch, but finally had to abandon both traps, crayfish and the ship. The skipper was rescued by the lifeboat "Uni Kragerø" under dramatic circumstances as the ship heeled so much to starboard side that he had to stand on the railing. When the lifeboat from Kragerø which had already been on the way to Langesund to participate in an exercise, arrived after an hour, the "Siva" had suffered major damage and was holed on the rocks. Trond Jensen was taken off and hired the salvage company Brevik Shipping which planned to hoist the boat onto a barge in the morning of Nov 24. Jensen hoped it could be repaired so he can go crayfish fishing again. Norwegian report with photo: http://www.varden.no/nyheter/det-var-det-verste-stedet-jeg-kunne-fatt-motorstopp-1.1596689
