Fire gutted historic trawler

In the night of Aug 17, 2014, the "Sirius" cauhgt fire in the Inner Port of Stellendam. The fire aboard the fishing vessel started around two o'clock in the wheelhouse. The fire department which attended with two engines from Stellendam and Goedereede had trouble getting the fire under control. The ship drifted slowly in the water because the fire had burnt throught the mooring lines. With a platform on the side and help from the KNRM the fire could be brought under control within about three hours. There were no injuries, no one was on board during the fire. The ship, which was severely damaged, was meanwhile towed back to the quay. The fire was suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit.
