Grounding on the Danube

Sun Aug 30 21:29:47 CEST 2015 Timsen

In the morning of Aug 30, 2015, at 6.45 a.m. the "Sinn", 1935 ts (EU-No.: 04013160), ran aground on the Danube near Straubing-Hofstetten on a gravel bar. Probably gravel had damaged the bowthruster of the vessel which turned around 180 degrees and was being held with two anchors in postion now. The ship was loaded with 840 Tontons coal and bound from Regensburg to Linz. It has to be repaired before being able to continue its voyage. The accident was caused by a shallow with only 80 centimeters water depth left which had built up amid the fairway. The ship traffic at the site was barred by the police.

Dabube temporarily blocked by grounded barge

Tue Aug 21 08:54:14 CEST 2012 Timsen

On Aug 20, 2012, the "Sinn" being loaded with 613 tons soy ran aground on the Danube enroute Deggendorf-Passau. Due to a driving mistake of the pilot the ship got stuck on the left shore and was turned perpendicular to the fairway. Then the stern got stuck on the right shore. The master was able to anchor the ship at the Mühlhamer Loop. The Danube had to be closed between 8 and 9.30 a.m. before the ship was back in the fairway and surveyed by the Water and Shipping Office Regensburg.
