Largest container ship ever to be scrapped

Thu Jul 09 11:49:55 CEST 2020 Timsen

The 22-year-old post-panamax container ship 'Sine Maersk' will be the largest container ship shipped so far. The vessel will be environmentally demolished at the Sok Denizcilic yard in Turkey which complies with the EU's rules for green scrapping and already has recycled the 'Maersk Pembroke' in 2017. The 'Sine Maersk' is one of the first in a series of 25 container vessels built at the Lindø shipyard in Odense between 1997 and 2004, and the ship is an extended version of the former K-class with a capacity of 7,403 TEU, which has so far had the record as the largest container ships sent for scrapping. The 'Sine Maersk' was taken out of business in June and arrived in Aliaga, coming from Oman via the Suez Canal, on June 29, 2020. The company expects Maersk to receive $ 100 less per tonnes for the ship in Turkey.
