Six Cuban migrants rescued off Progreso

Wed Dec 13 11:46:49 CET 2023 Timsen

The 13th Naval Zone of Yucalpetén assisted six castaways of Cuban origin early on Dec 12, 2023, who had been rescued by the “Sider Tayrona”, en route from Puerto Moin to Tampico, after being sighted aboard a disabled boat approximately 150 nautical miles northwest of the port of Progreso, Yucatán. Prsonnel from the Naval Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance Station (ENSAR) Yucalpetén and Naval Health provided support for the evacuation and transfer of the six castaways, among them one woman and five men. The Cubans were evacuated about 35 nautical miles off the coast of Yucatán. They were transferred to Progreso in good health, so they were handed over to the authorities of the National Migration Institute (INM), which was expected to begin the repatriation process to transfer them back to Cuba.
