LOOP confirms VLCC SHADEN on site for export test

Sun Feb 18 09:21:29 CET 2018 arnekiel

The largest privately-owned crude terminal in the US is testing its loading and unloading procedures with a VLCC tanker now moored on site. The move has brought Louisiana's Offshore Oil Port (LOOP) a step closer to exporting crude oil, connecting LOOP's Clovelly Hub in Galliano, Louisiana to its deepwater port 18 miles offshore and completing modifications that allow the facility to operate bi-directionally and without shuttle tankers. LOOP began seeking shipping partners in the project in July 2017 and this week the group said it had moored a VLCC on site and begun a "detailed test and checkout procedure". Market intelligence service S&P Global named the VLCC operator as Shell, citing market sources who said the US' first true VLCC export would sail this week. Shell declined to comment and a LOOP representative was unavailable. Multiple AIS data trackers show the VLCC SHADEN, owned by Bahri in Saudi Arabia, making the journey from the nearby Freeport anchorage off Galveston, Texas, on 10 February and arriving on site at the LOOP terminal on 12 February. No AIS updates from the vessel have been recorded since 1901 UTC on 12 February. source: tankershipping
