Part of construction barrier thrown 40 meters down on cargo ship

Mon Nov 03 15:35:19 CET 2014 Timsen

A 25-kg-block was thrown from the bridge over the Kiel Canal at Grünental (Steinburg) onto the passing "Catalina D", enroute from Ceuta to Gdynia, in the night of Nov 2, 2014. The missile struck the deck of the foreship from a height of 40 meters on the front deck of the "Katalina D". No one was injured. The ship suffered a dent on deck, but luckily the crew was inside the accomodation block and only remarked a bang. They recovered the missile and handed it over to the police when docking in the canal locks in Kiel-Holtenau at 4.30 a.m. The ship continued around 6 a.m. The water police now was searching for witnesses. The missile was the foot of a construction site barrier, but there was no such on the canal bridge, so it must have been taken there by car.
