Grounded bulkcarrier causes environmental damage

Tue Dec 12 21:10:53 CET 2017 Timsen

Residents of the Maniwiriwiri community in central Makira said that the grounded "Serenity 1" was causing an oil spill and environmental damage in Makira upon the Solomon Islands and were calling on the Ministry of Environment to assess the environmental impact of the log ship that wrecked at the Waimahui log pond. The bulkcarrier was diverting waves and causing damage to nearby coconut plantations. An oil spillage from the ship, which has been left in the area for three weeks now, has polluted the sea in the area.
