River cruise ship refloated
The "Serena" was pulled off by a Dutch barge in the afternoon of Oct 28 and towed into the port of Colonia-Niehl. The ship was taken alongside around 2 p.m. and refloated with the passengers still on board, 50 of whom were disabled mentally or physically. The port side propeller and the engine were damaged when the ship ran onto a river dam so that the "Serena" was disabled. ´River cruise ship got stuck during medevac
on Oct 28, 2013, at 9 a.m. the Dutch river cruise ship "Serena" (EU-No: 02322470) ran aground on the Rhine at Wacht on a river dam. The ship was about to berth after a passenger had fallen ill to disembark him. He was then taken off by the fire rescue Leverkusen. The ship had on board about 80 disabled passengers and was underway to Königswinter. As the stormy winds made unikely that the ship would be refloated soon, it was planned to evacuate them in the morning of Oct 29. The 122-m-ship also had suffered damage at the stern, so the further proceedings would have to be negotiated with the responsible authorities. The fire rescue was meanwhile constructing a wooden staircase to take the passengers to shore.
