Five containers removed from water
Five of the six empty containers lost by the "Sensation" when the ship hit the Willems Bridge in Rotterdam, have been salvaged. The New Maas will soon be re-opened for shipping. One box had sunk, the other five were recovered by the salvage company Smit Waalhaven and Hebo Maritime Service. The work of removing them from the water was undertaken by the Maritime Service from Hebo Zwartsluis and Diving & Salvage W. Smit Rotterdam Waalhaven. The brand new salvage vessel "Hebo Cat 7" was deployed for this purpose. The "Sensation" was underway to Germany and will probably continue the journey once all containers are secure and a number of containers on board are righted again. The ship is operated by the Alcotrans Container Line in Zwijndrecht. The bridge was re-opened for vehicle traffic at 11.15 a.m. Wiebbe Bonsink Director of Maritime salvage Hebo Service considers that the salvage operation 'a breeze' is. "We can 'Hebo Cat 7' with spud capture and the crane on board is very versatile and can be anywhere." He expects the salvage of the sunken container the most time consuming, because divers underwater slings fixed to make. "That will take some time, but also not very difficult. Container ship allided with Maas Bridge
The "Sensation" allided with the Willems Bridge on the New Maas in Rotterdam on Apr 18, 2012, at 7.45 a.m. Six to seven containers, some of them empty, went over board. A dive team and a rescue team were sent to the scene. The containers were secured with wires at the quay to keep them from sinking. Investigations were launched whether the Willems Bdidge suffered damage, and the bridge was closed to vehicles, but was still open for cyclists and pedestrians. The shipping between the William Bridge and the Erasmus Bridge was partially obstructed, vessels were allowed to pass the "Sensation" with slow speed on the southern river side. New section inserted after collision
The "Sensation", which had suffered a gash of 10 metres in a collision with a German barge in the night of Jan 16 to 17, 2012, after a two-week drydock repair resumed her service on Feb 22. The Damen Shiprepair Rotterdam,inserted a new section in Drydock 1. The "Sensation" had been damaged on starboard sie amidships. A section of 10 by 5.50 meters and a weight of 17 tons had to be removed from the starboard side.While in dry dock the damaged section was cut out, the new section was constructed. It was hoisted in position with cranes and fixed within 13 days. On Feb 15 the "Sensation" left the dock.
