Senna detained in Qinzhou after failing safety checks
A Thai ship transporting liquified petroleum gas was held in a south China port after failing safety checks, maritime authorities said Wednesday, August 1, 2012. Twelve safety defects were detected on the Senna during a Tuesday check, including problems with its lifeboats and fire extinguishing facilities, the Qinzhou Maritime Bureau in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region said in a statement. Eighteen crew members were aboard the ship, which arrived at the Qinzhou port on July 26 from Haiphong port in Vietnam, sources with the bureau said. Port authorities have put the ship in custody and ordered a safety overhaul before it can be released, according to the statement.
