Accomodation ships for migrants arrived in IJmuiden

Mon Oct 09 11:25:36 CEST 2023 Timsen

On Oct 7, 2023, the 'Seaway Falcon' arrived at the port of IJmuiden with two accomodation ships which were picked up in Singapore by the ship. The 'Bibby Progress' and the 'Bibby Renaissance' were taken off for a further journey to the Coenhaven in Amsterdam. There they will be further equipped to serve as a shelter for about 1000 asylum seekers. The 'Bibby Renaissance' has room for 664 people, the 'Bibby Progress' has a capacity of 314 places. Normally these ships are used as temporary accommodation for personnel in large maritime projects. The reception of almost 1000 refugees should have started in November. According to the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers, that date is no longer feasible because the voyage of the 'Seaway Falcon' was delayed due to weather conditions. It was now expected that the first refugees will be accommodated on the ships at the end of December.
