Missing crew member is dead
The 42-year-old Philippine crew member missing from the "Seastar Endeavour" is dead after he fell over board in the North Sea on MAy 20. A rescue helicopter found the man heavily hypothermic in the water 12 miles west of Esbjerg. The mate was flown to the Aarhus University Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. The man was last seen on board the ship when he left the bridge at the end of his watch at 4 a.m. north of Hanstholm. At noon he was expected to start a new watch. When did not turn up an alarm was triggered. The ship was located west of Esbjerg then. An SAR operation was launched along the entire Danish West Coast, from Hanstholm in the north to Esbjerg in the south. The search included two rescue helicopters and 12 ships of the Civil Guard. At 4.30 p.m. the man, who was 2nd mate on board the ship, was located next to Blåvand.
Search for missing crew member suspended
A crew member of the "Seastarr Endeavour" went missing off Texel in the afternoon of May 20, 2018, around 4 p.m. while the ship was enroute from Suez to Gdansk. The Dutch Coastguard launched an SAR operation about 40 miles northwest of Texel which lasted until 2 a.m. on May 21. The ship turned around and followed exactly its previous routewithout tracing the man. Meanwhile the survival rate of the person has dropped to zero. In addition to the Coast Guard, the KNRM and a helicopter were also used to search for the man. In addition, all ships in the North Sea were asked to have a sharp look out for the missing person.
