Attack off Sao Tome
On Feb 8, 2021, around 5 p.m. the 'Madrid Spirit' was attacked by a fast boat with several pirates on board in position 00 43 S, 006 08 E, about 60 miles Southwest of Sao Tome enroute from Bonny. The pirates opened fire on the LNG-tanker, and the bridge wings were damaged. The attack was aborted after about 45 minutes, and the tanker maintained full speed throughout the pursuit. The vessel and its crew were safe.
Rampage on tanker
A crew member of the 'Madrid Spirit' ran amok and attacked another crew member with a knife, stabbing him in the back, head and thorax, on Aug 20, 2020. The man surfered significant injures, which required emergency surgery. The tanker which was en route from Bilbao to Nigeria, interrupted the voyage and headed towards the nearest port, which was Dakar, where it arrived in the afternoon. Other crew members managed to disarm and immobilize their colleague and locked him in. Upon the arrival at Dakar, the injured seafarer was transferred to a hospital, his attacker was arrested and taken to custody. The tanker left Dakar again on Aug 22.
Madrid Spirit delivers first LNG Cargo to new LNG Terminal at Dunkirk
The Dunkirk liquefied natural gas terminal in France received its first cargo on Friday, July 8, boosting the nation’s import installations for the fuel to four, just as a wave of new supply hits the market. Madrid Spirit, a 285-meter-long tanker, delivered a commissioning cargo from Nigeria, according to ship-tracking data. The first unloading will be followed by tests on the terminal for about two and two and a half months, according to the website of Electricite de France SA, which owns 65 percent of the project.
