Cruise ship evacuated after fire
In the afternoon of Sep 1, 2016, a fire broke out in the engine room of the "Seadream I" 40 miles off Palinuro, south of Naples, in the Tyrrhenian sea. There were 105 passengers and 61 crew members on board. The ship was directed to Amalfi, but the propulsion failed as a consequence of the fire, leaving the ship immmobilized with very limited electricity, and it was taken in tow to Port Partenopeo by tugs from Naples where it was expected in the afternoon of Sep 2. The passengers and non essential parts of the crew were evacuated onto the ferry "Isola de Vulcano" and taken on to Naples, no injures were reported. The Italian Coast Guard immediately diverted merchant ships transiting in the vicinity and sent two aircraft and five patrol boats as well as an inspection team responsible for verifying the security conditions. The cruise would have ended on Sep 3 in Civitavecchia.
