Tanker being cooled down after fire
On Sep 13, 2019, a fire broke out in the engine room of the "Dubai Harmony" at the Stureterminal in Øygarde, which had berthed in Sture, coming from Gothenburg, at 1.15 a.m. 80 people had to be evacuated due to the fire aboard the tanker adjacent to the quay which occurred while refueling. A total of 106 people were at the terminal. The vessel had 40,000 cubic meters of oil on board. Everyone, except 22 essential personell in readiness, was evacuated from the terminal. A traffic ban was established one nautical mile outside the terminal, in addition to an aircraft ban zone up to 3000 meters above the terminal area. The police was notified of the fire at 10:59 a.m. Fire boats and fire trucks were sent from Bergen. Equinor also assisted with personnel in the extinguishing work the fire crew of which was specially trained to handle such types of situations. 15 crew from Bergen among other crews of the Rits group were on site. Neither the fire department nor terminal operator Equinor initially had an overview of whether the tanker was fully loaded. The tanker had a slight list. The NSSR boat "Kristian Gerhard Jebsen" was also on standby in the Hjeltefjord and followed the situation closely to be prepared in case the situation worsened. Also the tugs "Ajax", "Tenax" and "Velox" attended. All 23 crew members were accounted for. Onne person was taken care of by health personnel for smoke, inhalation. A security zone of 500 meters was established around the tanker. The Coast Guard sent a representative to the site to assist Equinor. The extent of pollution after the fire was currently unclear. The Norwegian Maritime Directorate has been notified and will carry out an inspection on board the ship in the coming days, look at the damage and assess whether it was still seaworthy. At 1. 10 p.m. the fire was extinguished. Cooling work continued, the evacuation of the terminal was terminated. In the evening, the offshore supply ship "Tenax" (IMO: 9348716) was still alongside the tanker which had 40 tons of bunker fuel on board. The last fire crew left the scene between 4 p.m. and 4.30 p.m. The safety zone and the flight ban have been lifted. The police launched an investigation and started interrogating the crew. The tanker left the terminal again on Sep 29 at 8.40 a.m. and headed to Sløvåg where she moored at the Wergland Base AS, Stonganeset, at 10.50 a.m. for repairs. The fire in the engine room of the crude oil tanker Dubai Harmony extinguished
The fire in the engine room of the crude oil tanker Dubai Harmony moored at the Sture terminal in Øygarden municipality has now been extinguished, Equinor said in its release. At 1102 this morning, Equinor's alarm centre received reports of a fire in the engine room on board Dubai Harmony, which was loading at the quay at the Sture terminal. The fire has now been extinguished and the fire service is continuing to cool the area where the fire took place. The 102 people who were at the Sture terminal were evacuated from the terminal when the incident occurred as a precaution, while only personnel with emergency tasks remained at the terminal. The emergency organisation in Equinor will maintain dialogue with the public rescue service and other relevant authorities. Production at the Sture terminal, which receives oil from Oseberg, Grane, Edvard Grieg and Svalin, was not affected by the incident.
