Bulkcarrier left port after temporary repairs
The 'Niton Cobalt', upon completion of temporary repairs at the CUFL Jetty of the Chittagong Port Authority, Bangladesh, sailed on March 5, 2020, at 10 a.m. It was en route to Haldia with an ETA as of March 6. After the repair work had been completed it was initially shifted to outer anchorage. The vessel was permitted to sail as soon as the final survey was completed, followed by issuance of necessary port clearance.
Bulk carrier berthed for repairs
The entire damaged cargo has been discharged from the 'Niton Cobalt' Chittagong outer anchorage, as of Feb 9. The vessel was docked at the CUFL Jetty for further repairs on Feb 12. at berth CUFLJ, and was likely to sail on Feb 23.
Discharge operation resumed after repairs
After completion of repairs of its allision damage o Jan 19, 2020, the 'Niton Cobalt' resumed discharging the balance of 4500 tonnes of damaged cargo into a lighter vessel at Chittagong outer anchorage. The operation was expected to be completed this week, and the vessel was scheduled to sail for Singapore then. The ship had been in allision with the bulk carrier 'Indigo Silva' while manoeuvring for departure to its next port of destinaation Mongla on Dec 17, 2019. The 'Niton Cobalt' contacted the bulbous bow and stem of the 'Indigo Silva'. The hull suffered damage at the sheer strake at cargo hold No.5, and there was also a rupture in the hull in the forward part of cargo hold No.5 causing a flooding of the hold which was containing gypsum in bulk. The 'Indigo Silva' had arrived at Chittagong outer anchorage on Dec 10 and sailed for Singapore on Dec 26.
