Bredstedt aided drifting yacht
In the early evening hours of Oct 6, 2011, the "Bredstedt" received a mayday of the German yacht "Stella Maris". The skipper reported an engine failure. With wind gusts of force 8 and waves of 2 meters height the two-man crew was not able to run the boat under sail. Boat and crew were traveling from Sassnitz to Rostock. The yacht was adrift seven nautical miles north of Zingst in the heavy seas. Two federal police officers were sent to provide assistance to the "Stella Maris". The boat was then sailed by the officers towards Gellen where the "Stella Maris" was taken in tow by the lifeboat "Hertha Jeep" into the nearby port of Barhöft.
