Pollution with paraffin wax
In the afternoon of Dec 5, 2012, the "Wappen von Dresden" caused a water pollution with paraffin wax in the port of Hamburg. The tanker was moored at the Arningkai and unloaded 9,224 tons of paraffin wax. The lids of the tanks were kept continuously open. While unloading the third cargo tank an undetermined amount of paraffin wax came through the open cap onto deck of the ship. The contaminated area was about 50 square meters. The leaked wax reached a height of 20 centimetres in some places and partially ran into the water. Deck and water could be cleaned quickly as the wax solidified immediately. The water police took over the investigation, a safety fine of 56650 Euro had to be deposited.
