Owner and master of Jacob Cornelis to appear at court
The owner of the "Jacob Cornelis" and his captain will appear at the Criminal Court in Dunkirk on Mar 1. They are alleged to have fished sole off Dunkirk with prohibited gear and to have obstructed the control of the agents of the Maritime Affairs. The captain first refused to let the agents do their work on the ship. For this, fines of € 22,500 and € 15,000 were incurred. A security deposit of € 25 000 € was requested by the judge on Jan 26 to ensure the possible payment of fines.On Jan 24 the "Jacob Cornelis" was caught while fishing with meshes of the nets being too narrow. She was directed to Dunkirk with a catch of 1,3 tons of soles which was sold at the auction in the morning of Jan 26 for the benefit of the French state. Fishing vessel seized and arrested in Dunkirk
In the morning of Jan 24, 2017, the "Jacob Cornelis" was seized being suspected of fishing sole off Dunkirk with a trawl using mesh size of 75 mm instead of the regular 80 mm. The ship was directed to Dunkirk,escorted by the custom's boat "Armoise". The catch of 1300 kilos wasconfiscated, as well as the vessel and its fishing gear.On Jan 25 a safety fine should be fixed the owner will have to pay to recover his ship. This sum will also serve as a guarantee for the appearance of the master and the shipowner before the Criminal Court of Dunkirk.
Medevac off Steenbank
In the morning of Nov 14, 2012, at 6.20 a.m. a medevac was requested from the "Jacob Cornelis (IMO: 9227572) after a crew member had fallen ill. The master had contacted the Dutch Coast Guard. The patient had a fever and was vomiting. The fishing vessel was approximately 12 miles northwest of Westkapelle and sailed into the direction of Steenbank where the man was transferred aboard the lifeboat "Uly" and taken to Flushing where he was medically treated.
