Power loss on Main
In the night of Aug 17, 2011, the "Scenic Ruby" sufferred a complete loss of energy and drifted on the Main near Volkach with 166 passengers. The ship with its Australian passengers was underway from Budapest to Amsterdam, when the power loss occurred between Fahr and Volkach around midnight. The captain in spite of this was able to steer the ship around a curve before it was stopped with the stern anchor. Some time later the anchor dragged, and then the 60 m long chain broke. But within seven minutes the crew was able to regain power and the ship berthed underneath the Gerlachshausen lock. The ship may only continue when a new anchor is fixed and the fault in the ship's electronic was found. The 1,1 ton anchor blocked shipping until it was recovered at 11.15 a.m. Shipping was allowed again at 1 p.m. German thread with photos of ship in Gerlachshausen on Aug 17: http://www.binnenschifferforum.de/forum/showthread.php?34679-Schiffshavarie-auf-dem-Main
