Cruise ship completed unscheduled repairs in Galveston
After completing an unscheduled drydock stay, the 'Scenic Eclipse' returned to service on Nov 27, 2024, and departed Buenos Aires on a 21-day voyage exploring the Falkland Islands, South Georgia, and Antarctica. The itinerary included a five-day visit to the Antarctic Peninsula and stops in the South Shetland Islands before concluding in Ushuaia, marking the beginning of the ship’s 2024-25 Antarctic season, featuring a series of expeditions ranging from 13 to 23 nights, all departing from Ushuaia. In Sep 2024, the vessel had encountered propulsion issues, prompting a repair in drydock. Scenic Cruises worked with ABB to replace one of the ship’s Azipod propulsors at the Gulf Copper shipyard in Galveston, Texas. The new unit was delivered via a chartered Antonov 124 aircraft. The repairs necessitated the cancellation of three cruises, including one to the Caribbean and two to South America. Scenic Cruises offered affected passengers alternative arrangements.
