The "Saramago" which had sunk in El Musel in the night of April 6 following a water ingress when entering the port after colliding with the pierhad of the Ingeniero Moliner Pier, was refloated in the afternoon of Apr 14 by salvors of the company Canteli. The ship, which had been moved to the the La Osa pier which was shallower than the surrounding waters after the accident, was docked at the pier once floating again. During the recent days workers had patched the leak. An anti-pollution barrier was surrounding the ship to contain any fuel spillage. Preparations to raise ship in El Musel
The "Saramago" which sank in El Musel, was still waiting to be refloated. Although at first it was planned to carry out the salvage operation on Apr 11, the Maritime Captaincy postponed it a few more days while crews were finalizing the works previous to the salvage such as patching the leak in the hull which the ship suffered when hitting the nose of the Moliner dock. Several operators were working from inside the wreck to make sure nothing fails during the lifting operation. Trawler sank in Gijon
In the night of April 7, 2018, the "Saramago" sank in the La Osa Dock in the port of Gijon. While entering the port, a fault in the autopilot caused it to allide with the pierhead of the Moliner dock. The ship suffered water ingress, and the fire rescue tried to cope the flooding with a a bilge pump. As this was not enough, they decided to move the ship to the la Osa Dock, the safest and shallowest area of the port. The ship foundered up to the main deck, listing to port side. As a precaution, 75 meters of anti-pollution barriers have been installed. At the moment no fuel leakage was observed.
