Bulk carrier left port almost two years after allision
The 'NM Luiz', formerly known as São Luiz, left the Port of Rio de Janeiro on Oct 13, 2024, after being docked for almost two years. The operation lasted approximately4,5 hours with four tugs and specialized equipment that guaranteed the safety of the maneuver, which was coordinated by PortosRio and Praticagem-RJ. The departure of the vessel marked the end of a long judicial process that kept the vessel docked since 2022, after alliding with the Rio-Niterói Bridge. Acquired at auction by the Turkish shipowner Rota Shipping, the ship went through a series of preparations to ensure a safe departure, without affecting maritime traffic or the environment in Guanabara Bay. Bound for Turkey, the 'NM Luiz' continued its journey escorted by tugs.
