Medevac off Cap de la Hague
In the morning of Sep 19, 2023, an H160 helicopter of the French Navy medevaced a passenger of the 'Santona' and transported him to Cherbourg hospital. At around 5 a.m. the captain of the ferry, sailing between Portsmouth and Santander, requested assistance from the CROSS Jobourg as one of the passengers presented worrying health symptoms. The ship was then sailing about ten nautical miles northnorthwest off Cape de la Hague in the English Channel. The CROSS Jobourg established a conference call with the maritime medical consultation center in Toulouse and the maritime medical coordination SAMU in Le Havre, and a medical evacuation by helicopter to the Cherbourg-en-Cotentin hospital was recommended. The H160 helicopter was deployed from the Navy base in Maupertus with a medical team from the army health service, which was picked up by the helicopter at the Querqueville site. Once on site, the medical team was dropped pff aboard the ship to take care of the victim and prepare him for evacuation by helicopter. Once airlifted, the victim was then transported and dropped off at the Pasteur hospital in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin for further medical treatment.
Medevac off Ouessant
A 71-year-old passenger of the 'Santona' was medically evacuated in the afternoon of March 18, 2023 off Ouessant between Roscoff and Santander after having suffered a heart attack. After medical consultation, an NH 90 helicopter from the naval base in Lanvéoc took off to assist him in Fromveur, not far from the island of Ouessant. After being taken care of by a doctor, the passenger was airlifted in the middle of the afternoon to reach the Cavale Blanche hospital in Brest, where his condition was considered less worrying.
