Ferry suffered engine failure
After the starboard main engine failed, the 'Sansovino', connecting Porto Empedocle and the Pelagie Islands, aborted the trip to Lampedusa and returned to Porto Empedocle in the night of Oct 9, 2019, with 68 passengers on board. The ferry which had left the port at 11.30 p.m. was escorted on its way back, using the port side engine, by a tug as a precaution and berthed on Oct 10 around 11 a.m. The Harbor Office has alerted the Naval Italian Registry for an ispection on board. The ferry sailed again on Oct 15 at 11.10 p.m., bound to Linosa, ETA Oct 16.
Ferry blocked airport
The "Sansovino" blocked the airport at Lampedusa in the morning of July 6, 2018, after the ship allided with the pier while maneuvering to its berth, and shifted to a place where she was blocking planes from landings or take-offs, because the airstrip lies was situated very close to the pier. The ferry sustained a hull breach. It left the island in the afternoon, bound to Pempedocle.
Ferry returned to service
The "Sansovino" left Empedocle on March 29 again after four months and headed to Lampeduse, where she arrived on March 30 at 9.15 a.m. and resumed the schedule between the two ports.
