Freezer to be recycled in Flekkefjord
After 35 years of operation as a freezer ship, the 'Samskip Frost' will now be sent for scrapping at Green Yards in Flekkefjord. Green Yard said to be proud to have been awarded this assignment and at the same time considered it a breakthrough for our recycling business. It is a good promise for the future that Samskip has chosen us over foreign competitors, said Hans Jørgen Fedog, Green Yards general manager. The Flekkefjord based company is certified to perform scrapping of ships and rigs in accordance with national and international conventions and regulations. Most of the scrapping will take place indoors, which means less risk of emissions to the environment. In recent years, the yard has used modern and innovative tools to improve the working environment for its employees. The 'Samskip Frost' will be towed from Fredrikstad to Flekkefjord by the FFS Marines tug 'Amaranth', and will arrive at the srrapyard during week 4, 2020- Before the scrapping starts, the ship will be emptied of hazardous materials, and the shipyard will follow up with its own ship recovery plan in this process. Consultants from the company Sea2Cradle, together with Samskip, will have access to the yard to ensure that recycling is done in a safe and environmentally friendly way.
