Engine trouble off Vigo
The "Verona" suffered engine failure in the afternoon of Dec 29, 2017, around 4 p.m., about one hour after leaving Vigo bound for Tanger. The ship stopped and was anchored off Guarda, south of Vigo. The "María Pita", a Maritime Rescue vessel based in the Vigo estuary, was deployed to the "Verona" in order to decide whether the car carrier would have to be towed to port or continue the voyage after repairs at sea. Also the "Pesca" helicopter of the Consellería de Mar took off. The "Salvamar Mirach" from Vigo also approached the vessel, arriving on scene at 9.30 p.m., followed by the second ship at 10.30 p.m. The crew of the car carrier managed to fix the problem, and the "Verona" resumed sailing at around midnight, arriving in Tanger on Jan 1, 2018, at 7.30 a.m.
