General mistake – another tug Sadko is aground, not the one mentioned in news

Mon Nov 21 02:15:42 CET 2011 odinfm

Reports about tug Sadko accident are not correct – everybody including Lloyd reported tug Sadko as Sadko with IMO 9521239, labeled at stern with SCF Terminal, which is a mistake. There are several tugs Sadko registered in Russia with the class of Russian Maritime Classification Society, Sadko in question is not one of them, it’s a small tug registered in a special registry (GIMS MCHS) for small vessels with GRT less than 80 tons. Vessel’s port of registry is Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy, belonging to private entrepreneur Mr. Shilov. Tug with barge on tow ran aground on western coast of Kamchatka Peninsula in position 58 20N 158 52E around midday Nov 17, after tug was disabled with propeller entangled in net. There were 7 crew on board of the tug, and 2 crew on board of the barge. On Nov 18 all 9 people were evacuated by helicopter. The barge is holed, tug seems to be intact. Salvage under way.

Tug pushed aground

Fri Nov 18 10:53:27 CET 2011 Timsen

The "Sadko" on Nov 17, 2011, was pushed aground by large waves on the Kamchatka Peninsula. The incident occurred at a river mouth in the Tigil district. The tug was towing dumb barges with 500 tons capacity on the route Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky - Palana. About 70 km from the town of Palana the vessels were caught in a storm, the cable broke blocked the propeller of the tug which was drifted onto the shore. There were seven crew members, two of them were injured. After the grounding the crew inspected the hull for leaks. On Nov 18, an Mi-8 helicopter with rescuers and medics on board was sent to the scene.
