Ferry back into the water
On Feb 5 heavy equipment was ready to push the KM "Sabuk Nusantara 39" back to the sea in Wani Port, Donggala, Central Sulawesi. The ferry was grounded by a tsunami wave on Sep 28, 2018. Ferry on its way back to the water
The "Sabuk Nusandtara" which had drifted ashore in Palu on Sep 29, 2018, due to tsunami triggered by a 7.5 magnitude quake and was swept about 70 meters from the pier was on its way back to the water. Salvage workers installed airbags under the ship on Jan 7, 2019. The shipping company was still waiting for a permit from the Indonesian Sea and Coast Guard to continue with its salvage operation in pulling the vessel towards the sea. Initial inspection showed that the vessel didn't suffer damages but will still be examined further at a shipyard.
Work to refloat ferry underway
On Dec 28, salvage efforts on the "Sabuk Nusantara 39" were underway. The ferry was to be pulled towards the open sea after workers cleared the trash and other debris piled around the vessel which ran aground, in Palu on Sep 29 in a tsuami.
