Ship sank with fish, vegetables and fruit

Fri Nov 01 10:16:07 CET 2024 Timsen

On Oct 26, 2024, the KM 'Sabar Indah', carrying around 50 tons of fish, vegetables, and fruit, sank in the waters of Tanjung Bangsiin pos. 03.05.183 N 100.14.845 E. The ship had 11 crew members on board and was en route from Teluk Nibung Port, Tanjung Balai Asahan, to Port Klang. At around 1:00 a.m. WIB, the wind suddenly intensified from west to north, accompanied by large waves that caused the vessel to tilt. Water began entering the ship through the hatch, and the pumps could not cope with the water ingress. After the ship sank, the crew floated in the sea for about two hours before being rescued by a passing fishing vessel. Some crew members were scheduled to undergo an official examination (BAP) at the Tanjung Balai Asahan KSOP to provide details about the incident.
