IJssel reopened for ship traffic
The ship traffic on the IJssel at Zutphen could be resumed at 5.30 p.m. on Oct 25 after two tugs which had arrived at the accident site around midday had pulled the "Kaiserberg" off the cribs again. The ship had been stuck since 11 a.m. at km 925 At 7 p.m. the situation on the river was back to normal, and soundings of the bottom found no obstructions. 14 ships which were underway river upstream and six downstream were affected by the closure. Ijssel blocked by grounded barge
Ship traffic on the IJssel had to be stopped after the "Kaiserberg", 2048 ts (EU-No.: 4401090), was in collision with the Dutch "Anna", 1989 ts (EU-No.: 02319270), on Oct 25, 2012, at km 925 between Bronkhorst and Zutphen 500 metres away from the Cortenoeverse bridge. Rijkswaterstaat expected that the closure would last until 5-6 p.m. The "Kaiserberg" had suffered power los, got stuck on the right river bank and drifted perpendicular to the river causing the "Anna", which was carrying a cargo of salt and was sailing river upstream, to run into it. The "Kaiserberg" which was damaged at the stern was loaded with 1200 tons raw feed. The "Anna" suffered bow damage. Tugs were called to refloat the "Kaiserberg" and pull it to Eefde.
