Grounding on the Danube
In the afternoon of July 22, 2019, the ‘Rubiships VIII‘, 1999 ts, ran aground on the Danube near Osterhafen. The ship was loaded with a cargo of agricultural vehicles and sailing towards Passau, when the port side main engine and the rudder gear failed. The disabled ship veered to the left river side and got stuck on a gravel bar. The Danube was barred for passing ship traffic by the river authority so that ships had to anchor near the grounding site. In the morning of July 23 the barge was oulled off. After another failure of propulsion and rudder she drifted perpendicular to the fairway and got stuck on a groyne. A work boat was called to refloat it another time. The "Rubiships VIII" was pulled into the port of Deggendorf at 2.45 p.m. for repairs.
Rudder of barge broke
Enroute from Straubing to Deggendorf the "Rubiships VII Largo" suffered a broken rudder on the Danube near Deggendorf on Mar 25, 2014. The ship was stopped by an emergency anchoring manoever at the right river shore before taken to the old port of Deggendorf. It was planned to move the ship to Linz for repairs.
