Bulk carrier rescued eight castaways

Eight people, including four children, whose 8-m-catamaran sank following a water ingress near North West Island off Gladstone, in central Queensland on Sep 18, 2020, were rescued by the 'RTM Tarra'. The Queensland water police, a helicopter and a rescue jet had been searching for the group after the EPIRB was activated before 10:00 a.m. off the Capricorn Coast. The SAR operation was coordinated from Rockhampton and Canberra. The Capricorn helicopter rescue chopper was dispatched, as well as water police from Gladstone. The castways were rescued from water by the crew of the bulkcarrir where they were medically cleared by the rescue chopper and transported back to Yeppoon Rosslyn Bay.
